Lisa and her adopted sister, Marie, adore one another, are inseparable, and form an equally tight triumvirate with their sometimes-tipsy mom. Life is beautiful in their all-girl world! So when Marie falls in love and Alex enters the scene, the entire family is suddenly turned upside-down. They struggle to regain some sort of equilibrium… when fate throws them an even more tragic curve ball. Denis Ménochet (who is terrifying as the abusive husband in Xavier Legrand’s Custody, COLCOA 2018) brings enormous sensitivity and subtlety to his role as Alex in Mélanie Laurent’s exuberant, heart-rending, very accomplished directorial debut.
Melanie Laurent | Actor-turned-filmmaker Mélanie Laurent is best known for her role in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglorious Bastards (2009). Philippe Lioret’s Don’t Worry, I’m Fine (2006) earned her the César Award for Most Promising Actress. She has appeared in some 40 films to date, including Christian Carion’s My Son and Laurent Tirard’s Return of the Hero (both COLCOA 2018). Laurent made her feature directorial debut with The Adopted (Audience Award, COLCOA 2012), followed by the breathtaking Breathe (2014). She codirected the environmental documentary, Tomorrow (Best Documentary Award, COLCOA 2016), which earned the César Award for Best Documentary.
