“Children are always the first victims of poverty, pollution and violence,” our narrator tells us, “But today more and more of us are rising up to fight against that fate.” Those are the wise words of José Adolfo, a 13-year-old boy from Peru and recipient of the 2018 Children’s Climate Prize in Stockholm. He takes us on an inspirational world tour, to Guinea, France, the U.S., India and Bolivia, to meet other young activists who are fighting poverty; climate change; child marriage; homelessness; hunger; and child labor, exploitation and enslavement. They’re forming unions and publishing newspapers. Meet the heroic children who will save our planet!

Director Gilles de Maistre is a writer, director and producer of both documentaries and narrative films for television and theatrical release. In 1987 and 1988, he co-directed the TV documentaries Sans domicile fixe and Banlieue for Canal+, which were selected as two of the 20 best documentary reports of the decade. His first documentary feature, J’ai 12 ans et je fais la guerre (1990) won an International Emmy for Best Documentary and the Prix Albert Londres. His first narrative feature, Killer Kid (1994) was presented in Cannes. He has directed over 20 television documentaries and TV movies, the feature-length doc Alain Ducasse (COLCOA 2018), and the narrative feature Mia and the White Lion (2019).
